Community Involvement
Home Federal Bank takes pride in our community.
This dedication to local culture manifests itself through Home
Federal Banks involvement in community and charitable activities.
American Cancer
Society
“The American Cancer Society Relay for Life
represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be
forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that
one day cancer will be eliminated.” – American Cancer Society
Website
Relay for Life is American Cancer Society’s
signature fund raising activity. It offers everyone in the
community an opportunity to participate in the fight against
cancer. Teams of people camp out and take turns walking or running
around a track or path. Each team is to have a representative on
the track at all times. Relays are an overnight event lasting up
to 12 hours.
One of the most moving events is the Survivor
Presentations and Lap. Cancer survivors walk one lap around the
track and then release balloons. Another highlight of Relay for
Life is the Luminaria Ceremony. Team members walk around the track
while glowing luminaries light their path. Each Luminary
represents a person in the community who is a cancer survivor or
has lost his or her battle with cancer.
Home Federal Bank has played a tremendous role
in Bell County’s Relay for Life by allowing numerous staff
members to serve on the committee and being one of the top fund
raising teams.
March of Dimes
The March of Dimes is a national voluntary
health agency whose mission is to improve the health of babies by
preventing birth defects and infant mortality. Founded in 1938,
the March of Dimes funds programs of research, community services,
education and advocacy to save babies. In 2003, the March of Dimes
launched a campaign to address the increasing rate of premature
birth. Home Federal Bank contributes annually to the March of
Dimes and volunteers its time through fundraising efforts. For
more information visit their
website.
ROHO
Formed in the late 1960’s, ROHO was created by
young visionaries who wished to continue serving Middlesboro and
the surrounding communities after they reached the age limit of
retirement (39 years old) from the Junior Chamber of Commerce Club
. ROHO has become one of the driving forces in the development of
Middlesboro Kentucky.
ROHO has an annual year long fund raising event
called ROHO Fishing Derby. It is held at the 33 Bridge Marina
during the first weekend in May. The proceeds from this event go
to needy children from the tri state area. During the first week
of December, each child gets to travel to Middleboro’s Wal-Mart
and spend $100 on clothing and $30 on toys. Each child is
accompanied by an adult volunteer that assists the child while
he or she shops.
Many of Home Federal Bank's employees are members of ROHO.
During the 2007 Holiday Season, 177 children had a brighter Christmas
thanks to ROHO.
